Who are your biggest influencers and mentors personally & professionally and why? The 1930s & 1940s film star Hedy Lamar was an influencer in my life. Aside from having incredible fashion sense for the time, she was also an inventor and scientist outside of her film work. The phrase "more than a pretty face" absolutely described that woman. Personally, my late grandmother, Nana Vern, was a big inspiration in my life. She was always strong and witty and instilled in me the sense that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.

3 things that we should know about you? 1. Before TV, I worked as a weather forecaster with the National Weather Service. 2. I met my hubby online (it really works!) 3. I have two fur babies, Dolce and Dasher.
What fuels your drive? To inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM since it is still a predominantly male dominated field. I encourage and mentor young women to pursue careers in STEM because I didn't have anyone through grade school do that for me. In fact, I had a teacher in grade school encourage me *not* to pursue science because I struggled in my science classes growing up. I could have easily let that teacher's opinion influence my future, but I chose not to and look where I am today. Side note: I did end up running into the same teacher after graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science and I will never forget his facial expression when I told him I was taking a position with the National Weather Service as a forecaster!

What exciting project are you working on? Currently, I'm preparing for the Mrs. America pageant on Saturday, August 25 in Las Vegas. I'm also writing my first book!
Books you've enjoyed and what's the takeaway? In preparation for the pageant, the book I can't put down is Beauty, Truth, and Grace: Pageant Coaching to Win on Stage and in Life by Alycia Darby Zimnoch. It is filled with not just pageant advice but thought-provoking personal development exercises to bring out the best version of yourself.
What's been your most successful approach in building business relationships? The meteorology community is unique because it's small, so you run into a lot of the same people. My most successful approach because of that is to treat everyone I meet in the field with respect and kindness because you never know who will end up working with you (or even be your boss) down the road.

What are the lessons you've gained that have profoundly shifted your direction in business? Branding myself has been new to me, especially in the TV field. I have a national media platform, which I love and appreciate. Because of that, I have learned to take any type of social media comment at face value. If it's positive or negative, I can't take it to heart completely. It comes down to knowing myself and being at peace with my delivery and performance on-air.
There are a few more months left this year, what are the pressing goals that you'd like to accomplish before year end? Finish three more chapters of my book, prepare for a TEDx talk for next year, and continue spreading the word of my platform STE(A)M through any platform possible!
Your mantra? Shining honors God!
What type of digital magazine or periodicals do you enjoy? I do a lot of podcasts and books, but I do love the Mindfulness magazine and The Atlantan when I get them.
GETTING PERSONAL
Favorite spots to frequent for business connections in Atlanta/Nationally and why? Ponce City Market and the Beltline are my favorite spots here because it offers a variety for everybody.
Apple or Samsung why? I have an Apple, but I prefer Samsung. I miss my Note by Samsung because of the stylus!

What do you do for fun? My hubby and I work out together often and we started Improv classes together this year! I'm a dancer (mainly ballet), but I want to start flamenco dancing this Fall. And I'm also a bobbin lace maker, I'm a part of the International Organization of Lace, Inc. Atlanta chapter.
What legacy do you want to leave behind? That I've inspired women to boldly and courageously pursue STE(A)M and a fulfilling life through personal touch, my book, and my speaking engagements.
