“Last year, I helped launch a new segment called, “HLN Deals.” It’s a flash sale segment that airs each week and features various products at a special price just for our viewers. It’s exciting because it was our network’s first entryway into e-commerce and I’ve learned so much about this new space. “

Who are your biggest influencers and mentors personally & professionally and explain why? My parents have always been my biggest influencers both personally and professionally. They are two of the most hardworking and kindest people I know. I continue to hold the values they taught me close to heart and credit them with giving me the foundation to really soar in both my career and personal life. They are also both Guyanese and raised both my brother Chris and I to be proud of both our Canadian and Caribbean heritage. I am extremely proud of my roots and it’s important that my children are not only proud to be American … but also Canadian and Caribbean.
3 things that we should know about you? #1 – I’m married to an amazing man named Jesse Bibbs III who is a local artist, children’s book author and illustrator. He self-published his first book, “What Did You Do When You Went to the Zoo?” when I was pregnant with our first child. Some of his art work has appeared in The Marietta Museum of Art and The Zucot Gallery. I also have two wonderful children, Bailey (almost 6) and Braeden (2 ½).
Sugarcoat values cleanliness and is committed to elevating the industry’s standard level of cleanliness and sterilization to provide our clients with an unparalleled experience. Expect to fall in love with our differentiator when you step into Sugarcoat.
#2 – After my son turned one last year, I started working out and running again to combat some sadness I had about no longer nursing him. Since April 2017, I’ve run over 25 races including my first half marathon earlier this year. Training and getting out to races aren’t easy with two little ones, but I cherish the time to reflect when I’m running and the sense of accomplishment I get when I finish a race.
#3 – I’ve had an over 20 year career at Turner. I started my career there as an intern at CNN Sports Illustrated over 20 years ago. I returned in June 2000 as a full-time employee with CNN/SI and since then have also worked at CNN.com and HLN.
What fuels your drive? My children. I work to help provide for them now and when I’m gone. I also strive to make them proud to have me as their mother.
What exciting project are you working on? Last year, I helped launch a new segment called, “HLN Deals.” It’s a flash sale segment that airs each week and features various products at a special price just for our viewers. It’s exciting because it was our network’s first entryway into e-commerce and I’ve learned so much about this new space. It’s also been a great way to mix my love of fashion and retail in my day job.
Books you've enjoyed and what's the takeaway from that book? One of my favorite business books is “The Confidence Code,” written by journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. It focuses on the authors’ investigation of what makes people confident… particularly successful women. They also looked at the correlation between taking risk and success. Confidence is something that I’m constantly working on so their research and interviews were fascinating… especially how young girls are often raised to follow the rules and avoid risk-taking. I am trying to raise both my daughter and son to feel safe to try new things and take risks in hopes that it will make them confident as they enter adolescence, their teen years and adulthood.
What's been your most successful approach in building business relationships? I place a huge amount of importance on treating people fairly and with respect in the workplace. I also place importance on being my authentic self in the workplace and I believe that’s helped me create genuine relationships with my colleagues.
What type of digital magazine or periodicals do you enjoy? I read ADWEEK and AdAge to keep up-to-date with what’s going on in the advertising and media industry. I also enjoy reading ESSENCE and EBONY … as well as Runner’s World magazine.
What do you do for fun? Our entire family enjoys running and attending Atlanta Track Club events. My husband and I enjoy checking out new galleries in the city … as well as live shows by some of our favorite artists. I also cherish the times I can connect over brunch or dinner with my close girlfriends.
