Who are your biggest influencers and mentors personally & professionally and explain why?  Like many African Americans, I come from a lineage of strong women.  My grandmother, Stella Bynum Joseph is my biggest personal inspiration.  Although she had an 8th grade education, you wouldn’t have known it by speaking with her.  Her resilience in helping my parents raise our family, working 2+ jobs, her church involvement and encouragement to focus on our studies spoke volumes. Since I’m her namesake, we had a special relationship. I aspire to be the well-rounded, soft warrior she portrayed every day.

From a professional perspective, early in my career at Coca-Cola I was introduced to Charlene Crusco-Ingram, SVP of HR at the time, now CEO of Meals on Wheels. She became a mentor and inspiration as I progressed with the company, her quiet, yet powerful leadership style taught me to stay calm during conflict, think strategically to resolve challenges, seek to understand and respect other opinions.  Her elegance and grace in all that she accomplished gave me a true sense of what leadership should look and feel like.

What exciting project are you working on?
A project that I just finished on 11/30, the inaugural Goode Foundation Gala to beat ALS!  I have a dear college friend (Kerry Goode) who was diagnosed with the disease in 2015. His strong faith and awesome attitude inspired many of my University of Alabama friends and I to plan and execute the gala to raise funds to help fight the disease.

Books you've enjoyed and what's the takeaway from that book? I’m a huge fan of self-help, empowering reads. Two of my favorites are Mindset-the new Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.  Both allow you to think about how your mindset, words approach determines your overall success.

What's been your most successful approach in building business relationships?
From a business perspective and in any relationship (love, friendships, etc.), everyone wants genuineness. You allow others to see how you add value, both parties determine similarities/differences to leverage strengths and lastly, you take those learnings to build, refine and evolve the relationship.

What are the lessons you've gained that have profoundly shifted your direction in business? The effectiveness of collaboration. I’ve found it’s important to create an environment of inclusiveness, understanding and that everyone brings something different and ownable to the table.  I leverage team similarities and differences, which always results in bigger, stronger outcomes.  This approach has served me well professionally, personally and via the community work I lead.

Your mantra? Elegance, Excellence, Empower

What type of digital magazine or periodicals do you enjoy? I love style/fashion periodicals as well as those that inspire and empower.  One of the digital magazines that does both is Essence. Women/girl empowerment is a passion of mine, and no other publication uplifts and tells the story of African American women like Essence. Through their efforts, little African American girls continue to see smart, beautiful and powerful women who look like them!

Favorite spots to frequent for business connections in Atlanta/National/International and why? – As you’ve gathered, women’s empowerment, giving back and uplifting/supporting younger females are passions.   Locally, the Gathering Spot (a community hub of diverse collaborations, connections and experiences) is a powerful group to join for business connections. It launched in Atlanta in 2016 and expanding to other cities in 2019.   Odyssey is a national organization that partners with large corporations to support, empower, and provide business resources and networks for women of color.

Apple or Samsung why explain why?  Both are innovative and cutting-edge companies. I would choose Apple because I am more familiar and a user of their products vs. Samsung.   Apple has a strong marketing story, which is probably why I’m one of their many consumers. Technically both may be comparable, but the power of marketing speaks volumes. They’ve created this sense of badge value, if you have an Apple product it shows you’re in the know, premium, upscale, etc.   Apple connected with me, so I’ve been a consumer for a while.

5 Favorite skin care products & fragrance by Dior that you enjoy using? From a product perspective, I’ve tried more cosmetics vs. skincare and fragrances. I’m a big colorful lip and shadow person. I recently tried and purchased the Dior Lip Maximizer for little plumpness as I apply my lip color. I also love for make-up artists to create a story using my face as the canvas, some have used the Dior shadows.  Love them both!

What do you do for fun? Spend time with family and my best girlfriends – chilling out and new experiences, I love community fundraisers (dressing up for a cause), Workouts, college football games (University of Alabama of course – Roll Tide)!

What legacy do you want to leave behind? My hope is that my son Peyton knows that his mom did her “darnest” to make a difference in the world by giving back.  Success brings an obligation to joyously help others!  I pray that sees that in me and will follow my lead!
